A new relationship with animals, nature and each other.

Possums Are Center’s 5,500th Rescue

The number of animals treated at the Wildlife Center of Virginia in Waynesboro has surpassed 55,000.

That number was reached in May by a litter of opossums. They were orphaned when their mother was killed by a car in Rockingham County. A total of 28 animals were brought to the wildlife center that day.

The Wildlife Center was founded in 1982. Last year it admitted 2,534 animals from across the state, including 40 bald eagles, a single-year record.
