A new relationship with animals, nature and each other.

Beyonce, Jay-Z’s Elephant-Stingray Shoes

Fresh from their appearance at the President’s Inauguration, where they wore dead minks, Beyoncé and Jay-Z are now showing off their new shoes, made from the skins of elephant, crocodile, stingray, ostrich, cow, anaconda, alligator, boa, python, and lizard. (Check out the label of the “Brooklyn Zoo” brand that Beyoncé wears.)

Unlike the few celebrities who who use their fame and fortune to do some good for those less fortunate, this pair couldn’t give a damn about animals being killed and skinned so that these witless people can look pretty in them. (Oscar Wilde once called such folks “the unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable.)

While elephants are being gunned down by the thousands in Africa for their ivory tusks, their skin can still legally be bought and sold, and is even available on eBay and through companies like Rojé Exotics. These companies advertise elephant leather as being “very durable”, which is more than can be said for the elephants themselves. African elephants are expected to be extinct before the year 2050 rolls around.

But at least they’ll live on in Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s clothes closet.
