When a goose was hit by a passing car in China, and Yu Tanping saw his dog picking her up and bringing her home, he assumed that the dog was planning to eat her.
Quite the opposite; he was rescuing her.
The dog carried the limp, injured bird into the backyard of his home in Jiujiawan village.
“I thought he would eat the goose,” Yu told the local newspaper. “But instead he put it down and licked the bird until it came round.”
Since then, the two have become inseparable.
“They eat from the same bowl and even share the dog’s kennel,” Yu said. “And when the goose hears anything he starts honking – and that starts the dog barking. They are a great burglar alarm.”
