Winter’s Real Tale

What life is really like for this ‘movie star’

By Michael Mountain

A few days ago, I wrote about why I’m not a fan of the hit movie Dolphin Tale, which is the fictionalized version of the true story of a dolphin who was rescued and fitted with a prosthetic tail, and who now lives at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

While I’ve never actually been to the aquarium to see what her new life is like, I was concerned that it’s probably not the kind of idyllic existence that’s portrayed in the movie, and that this is just another case of exploitation.

This video simply confirms all my worst fears and expectations. Check it out for yourself.

The aquarium’s assertions that she’s a happy camper living a great new life simply don’t hold water. It’s just another money-making venture that will encourage more marine circuses and zoos to profit from keeping dolphins captive and putting them on show for ignorant, if well-meaning, members of the general public and their children.

Shame on the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

What you can do? Don’t buy a ticket to marine circuses and aquariums.
