Seniors Helping Seniors: Doris Day Gives to Muttville

At the age of 87, Doris Day has just released a new album. Great news if you’re a fan of the quintessential girl next door — or a fan of animals. Proceeds from the record will go to her nonprofit organization, the Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF), which supports animal welfare programs across the country.
The singer isn’t the only senior attracting attention these days. Long-standing DogTime favorite, Muttville Senior Dog Rescue, was recently chosen by DDAF to receive a $7,000 grant. This particular grant will underwrite 25 adoptions in Muttville’s “seniors for seniors” program, which pairs dogs in need, age seven and up, with humans age 60 and over.
We couldn’t agree more with Day’s selection of Muttville. The San Francisco-based rescue ensures that dogs like Buddy, a deaf and neglected Australian Shepherd mix, get a second chance. “When we learned about Muttville and its successful rescues of so many senior dogs, we knew we had to help,” said Day. “Muttville is a terrific group of volunteers doing good work, and we’re proud to be able to help.”
