A new relationship with animals, nature and each other.

This Week in Green – Nov. 6, 2010

With the results of Tuesday’s midterm elections still rankling many environmentalists and conservationists around the world, we thought it might be a good time to devote This Week in Green to more positive news (OK, mostly more positive news).

Prince in shining armor?

While we wait for a knight in shining armor to ride to the rescue of the planet, perhaps an honest-to-goodness Prince will do in the interim.

Prince Charles – yes, that Prince Charles, next in line to be King of England – has co-authored a book entitled Harmony, an environmental manifesto from HarperCollins that hit bookstands this week.

“I am absolutely determined to be the defender of nature. Full stop. That’s what the rest of my life is going to be concerned with,” said the Prince in an interview to promote the book.

“This is a call to revolution,” the Prince writes in chapter 1. “The Earth is under threat. It cannot cope with all that we demand of it. It is losing its balance and we humans are causing this to happen.”

The book, co-written by BBC broadcaster Ian Skelly and former Friends of Earth director Tony Jumper, will donate royalties from the book to the Prince’s Charities Foundation.
